James Hannay

James Hannay (spr. Hanneh), pseudonym Percival Plug (born February 17, 1827 in Dumfries , Scotland, † January 9, 1873 in Barcelona ) was a British journalist and writer .

Life

Hannay joined the navy at the age of 13 but left in 1845 to devote himself to literature.

In addition to articles in magazines, especially Punch , he published Biscuits and Grog in 1848 under the pseudonym "Percival Plug", and continued in the same year under the title: A Claret Cup. Further reminiscences and sketches of Percival Plug, RN

From 1860 to 1864 he edited the Edinburgh Courant . In 1863 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh .

In 1868 James Hannay was appointed English consul in Barcelona, ​​where he died on January 9, 1873.
