James Licini (born April 17, 1937 in Zurich ) is a Swiss sculptor and sculptor .

Life

James Licini is the grandson of an Italian who immigrated from Alano di Piave in Veneto .

After an apprenticeship as a blacksmith, James Licini worked from 1955 to 1959, first as an iron layer on the construction site, then as a cash and building fitter. Even as an apprentice, he communicated with artists such as Muz Zeier (1929–1981) and Friedrich Kuhn (1926–1972). From the 1960s onwards, Licini was occasionally called in as an assistant by Hans Aeschbacher and Kurt Laurenz Metzler .

As a sculptor, Licini is self-taught and does not see himself as an artist, but as a steel constructor. He works with double T-beams, angle iron and steel plates that he gets directly from industrial production. In 1968 he created his first abstract iron sculptures. Study trips to the USA followed in 1971 and 1972, and later to Spain and Mexico.

In the 1970s in particular, Licini received several grants, including from the city and canton of Zurich, and in 1974 a federal art grant . In 1997 he exhibited in the Forum Kunst in Rottweil , in 1998 in the Andy Jllien gallery in Zurich and in 2017 in the park of the Castello del Sole on Lake Maggiore . From 1961 to 1963 Licini was married to the photographer Maja Burkhard. Licini works in Nürensdorf .

His nephew Bernhard Licini completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith and also creates objects out of steel.
