Shanna Borissowna Nemtsova ( Russian Жанна Борисовна Немцова ; born March 26, 1984 in Gorki , Soviet Union ) is a Russian journalist and presenter .

Life

Shanna Nemtsova is the daughter of the murdered politician Boris Nemtsov and his wife Raisa. In 1997 the Nemtsov family moved to the capital of Russia , where Shanna began attending an elite school. At the age of 15 (1999) she worked as an intern at the anti-government radio station Echo Moskwy . She received professional training at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and the Moscow State Legal Academy OE-Kutafin. In addition to her Russian mother tongue, she is fluent in English and Portuguese . She began her professional career at the Russian TV broadcaster RBK , where she hosted programs and interviewed representatives from business and politics. The Kremlin asked the owner of this television station to dismiss the journalist. After her father's murder , Nemtsova emigrated to Germany and received a contract with Deutsche Welle . Since August 2015 she has been working in the Russian editorial team of the international broadcaster in Bonn . On August 4, 2015, she was awarded the Lech Wałęsa Prize . On November 9, 2015 she founded the Boris Nemtsov Foundation for Freedom in Bonn and in 2016 she donated the Boris Nemtsov Prize, which was awarded to the journalist and liberal politician Lew Schlosberg in 2016 and to the civil rights activist Ildar Dadin in 2017 .

Private

After graduating from university, Nemtsova married a friend of her father's, the vice-president of the Russian petrocommerce bank, Dmitri Alexandrovich Stepanov, who was 15 years her senior. He later named her vice president of his firm, Mercury Capital Trust . In 2011 the couple divorced.

In her spare time Nemzowa operates sports such as tennis and reads writers of the 20th century , including Mikhail Bulgakov and Ernest Hemingway .
