James Robinson (athlete)
James Robinson ( James Junior Robinson, Jr .; born August 27, 1954 in Oakland ) is a former American middle -distance runner who specialized in the 800-meter distance .
At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, he reached the semifinals.
In 1979 he won the Pan American Games in San Juan and came second in the World Cup in Athletics in Montreal . The US Olympic boycott prevented his participation in the 1980 Olympic Games .
Another second place at the Athletics World Cup in Rome in 1981 was followed by a fifth place at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 .
In 1984 he finished fourth behind Earl Jones , Johnny Gray and John Marshall in a photo finish at the US eliminations for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles and thus missed another Olympic participation despite his personal best.
He was US champion seven times (1976, 1978–1982, 1984)
