James Wiseman (born March 31,  2001 in Nashville ) is an American basketball player .

career

Wiseman moved from Ensworth School (Nashville) to East High School ( Memphis ), also located in the US state of Tennessee , in the 2017/18 season . In November 2018 he announced his decision to move to the University of Memphis and thus to coach Penny Hardaway , who had already looked after him for a while as a teenager. It was found that in 2017 his family had accepted funds from Hardaway that Wiseman had no knowledge of, but which was in violation of NCAA rules. He took part in three games in the 2019/20 season, in which he averaged 19.7 points for Memphis. On November 9, 2019, the NCAA revoked his license to operate. Wiseman initially filed a lawsuit, but dropped it in mid-November 2019. In December 2019 he left the university to focus on the draft process of the NBA prepare in June 2020th In some draft preview rankings Wiseman is listed as a contender for one of the top places and sometimes also in first place.

In 2017 he won gold with the United States selection at the U16 American Championship.
