Jamie Richard Harnwell (born July 21, 1977 in Perth ) is an Australian football player . The goal-scoring central defender played, apart from minor interruptions, from 1998 to 2011 for the Australian club Perth Glory .

Career

Harnwell began his adult career in the Western Australia Premier League and played for Sorrento FC and Kingsway Olympic from 1996 to 1998 before moving to the National Soccer League (NSL) for Perth Glory . With the financially strong club, he reached the championship final for the first time in 2000, but in front of a record crowd of over 43,000 spectators, the Wollongong Wolves were defeated 6-7 on penalties. Two years later he was in the final with the team around the two top strikers Bobby Despotovski and Damian Mori , but the title win was missed again due to a 0-1 defeat against the Olympic Sharks . In 2003 the third championship final for Harnwell followed in four years, in the 2-0 win against the Sharks he put his team in the lead after 27 minutes before Mori made the final score shortly before the end of the game.

In the summer of 2003, Harnwell made the leap to Europe and completed trial training with the English fourth division club Leyton Orient , who finally offered him a short-term contract for a month. After only three missions he was not renewed in September and Harnwell returned to Perth Glory after a short stay in the English amateur camp at Welling United and won his second Australian championship title at the end of the season. After the NSL stopped playing in the summer of 2004, he kept fit with Sorrento before he was signed by Perth Glory again with the establishment of the A-League professional class .

For the opening season 2005/06 Harnwell received the captain's armband, which he had to cede to Simon Colosimo for the 2007/08 season . Although actually a central defender, he was summoned into the storm by coach Ron Smith during the 2006/07 season and was one of the top scorers in the A-League with seven goals this season, just as he was one season later when he scored eight. Due to the early end of the season in the Australian league, he switched to the Liechtenstein club FC Vaduz on loan for six months at the beginning of 2008 and made twelve appearances when the club achieved promotion to the Axpo Super League for the first time .

Since the 2008/09 season Harnwell has been playing in the central defense of Perth again, and in 2010 he qualified for the final round of the A-League for the first time. In 2011 he ended his professional career after 256 league games for Perth after he had not received a new contract offer from Perth Glory. For the 2011 season he returned to Sorrento in the Western Australia Premier League. In 2012 he won the Western Australia championship with Sorrento, in the final he saved his team in stoppage time with a 2-2 goal in extra time, where his team then prevailed 4-3.

Since 2011, Harnwell has also been coaching the women's team at Perth Glory in the W-League and commenting on A-League games for Fox Sports as a co-commentator.
