The Perth Glory Women are the women's football team for the Australian football club Perth Glory FC from Perth , Western Australia . The professional team was founded in 2008 and plays in the W-League , the highest women's soccer league in the country.

history

2008/09 - foundation and first season

When the Australian Football Association (FFA) founded the first women's professional league , the W-League , in 2008 , Perth Glory FC set up its women's team at the same time. Nicola Williams was hired as coach and the team started as one of the eight founding teams in the first season of the W-League. After only three wins, two draws and five defeats, the season ended for the team in penultimate seventh place.

2009 - Second season

For the new 2009 season, the coaching position changes to John Gibson. The team reached sixth place in the table at the end of the season and thus missed the entry into the W-League play-offs .

2010/11 - third season

Even in the third season in the W-League, the women's team did not get past fifth place in the table at the end of the season. The play-offs were missed again.

2011/12 - fourth season

Before the 2011/12 season, John Gibson left the coaching office. Former Australian A-League player Jamie Harnwell was signed as the new coach . With two wins and eight defeats, the team landed on the penultimate place in the table at the end of the season.

2012/13 - fifth season

Under coach Jamie Harnwell , the team reached second place in the table at the end of the 2012/13 season and thus moved into the play-offs of the W-League for the first time as one of the four best-placed teams in the table. After a 1: 1 n. V. , the team lost in the penalty shootout with 3: 4, the semi-final against Melbourne Victory and so failed to reach the Grand Final .

2013/14 - Sixth season

In the sixth season, the team reached fifth place in the table and thus just missed a place in the play-offs.

2014 - Seventh season

The seventh season of the W-League was the most successful season for the club to date. With ten wins and only two defeats, the team finished first in the table and won the W-League Premiership for the first time . In the subsequent playoffs, Perth Glory beat Sydney FC in the semi-finals 3-0. In the Grand Final , the team lost 3-1 to Canberra United FC and missed the double .
