Jamie McDonnell (born March 30, 1986 in Doncaster , Yorkshire , United Kingdom ) is a British professional boxer . He is a former world champion of the IBF and current regular world champion of the WBA in bantamweight (current WBA unified champion is Juan Carlos Payano ).

Professional career

McDonnel was able to win all of his first five fights, but none by knockout. In his sixth fight he reached only one draw. He won against Wayne Bloy on February 23, 2007 in a 10-round fight by technical knockout in the 3rd round and was British champion .

In the same year he tried to win this belt in the super flyweight and lost just over 12 rounds on points. He didn't lose the belt he had won in the bantamweight division. He also lost his next super flyweight contest on points. Since he was able to assert himself better in the bantamweight division, he entered this weight class again and defended his British championship title against Ian Napa just on points. In this battle it was also about the title of Commonwealth Master, which he thus won.

In his next fight he became European champion and thus captured another title. He inflicted his first defeat on the Mexican Julio Ceja (record 24-0-0) in May 2013 and won the IBF world championship belt. At the end of May 2014, he was able to secure the vacant WBA world title with a technical knockout victory over Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat .

He defended this title in the same year against the Argentine Javier Nicolas Chacon and twice in the following year against the Japanese Tomoki Kameda (31-0-0).
