history
British time
Jamrud was an area of strategic importance and served as the base for the British Indian Army during the British Raj period . In the military operations from 1878 to 1879, the place became important for the border extension of the British territory towards Afghanistan. The area also formed the basis for the operations of the Tirah Campaign , a religious war of the Afridi , from 1897 to 1898. In 1901, the town, which had 1,848 inhabitants, was the headquarters of the paramilitary border troops, the Khyber Rifles, and the toll station to use the Khyber Pass. Even today, the place is of great strategic importance because of its location on one of the most important routes into Afghanistan.
Others
Today there is a train station for the Chaiber Pass railway line . Depending on the security situation, tourists can travel on this train route to Landi Kotal just before the Afghan border with a steam locomotive. Marble deposits can be found in the vicinity of Jamrud .
