Jan Clayton

Jan Clayton (born August 26, 1917 in Tularosa , † August 28, 1983 in West Hollywood ) was an American actress .

Life

In 1938, Jan Clayton married her fellow actor Russell Hayden . The daughter Sandra (* 1940, † 1956) came from the marriage.

Jan Clayton became known for her role as Julie Jordan in the Broadway production of the musical Carousel in 1945 alongside John Raitt . A year later she took on two roles in the revival of the musical Show Boat at the Ziegfeld Theater , also on Broadway. Both productions were preserved for posterity through sound recordings.

Three years after the divorce from Russell Hayden, Jan Clayton married again in 1946: they had three children with the lawyer Robert Lerner, the daughters Robin (* 1948) and Karen (* 1949) and the son Joe (* 1950) . In 1958 this marriage also ended in divorce.

Between 1954 and 1957, Jan Clayton starred in 114 episodes of the television series Lassie as the mother of the main human actor Tommy Rettig . Until the early 1980s, she was primarily in front of the camera for television series.

Jan Clayton's third and final marriage (to composer George Greeley) lasted from 1966 to 1968.

Jan Clayton died of cancer two days after her 66th birthday. She is buried in the Fairview Cemetery in her birthplace, Tularosa.
