Jan Davidoff (born December 25, 1976 in Norden ) is a German artist.

Life

Davidoff grew up in Germany and Canada. After graduating from high school, he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Anke Doberauer and Günther Förg , and graduated in 2009 with a diploma. Davidoff showed his work in numerous solo exhibitions while still a student. In addition to participating in trade fairs (including Art Cologne , ArtMiami, Pulse New York, Zurich), he has since been featured frequently in group exhibitions, for example in 2011 "Davidoff meets Polke" together with Sigmar Polke , in 2012 "Les Fleurs du Mal" with u. a. Andy Warhol and Mel Ramos as well as solo exhibitions in Europe (2013 Galerie Binder Munich) and USA (2012 New York, 2014 San Francisco). Recently, there has been an increasing collaboration with art associations (Kunsthalle Altötting, Kunstverein Diessen) and museums in Germany (Villa Stuck Munich, Landscape Museum Seligenstadt). Jan Davidoff lives and works in Munich and Utting am Ammersee .

Davidoff blends the boundaries between figuration and abstraction. Total graphic reduction in black and white clearly emphasizes the contrast between nature and culture (a predominant subject in Davidoff's last work cycle in particular ), whereas abstractly lined up surfaces of the underground suggest three-dimensionality to the viewer. In particular, the metal works also use the instrument of fusion: the heterogeneously processed surfaces seek to play with light, so that the viewer perceives the depicted in a variety of ways through the reflection. The colorful, contour-accentuated, almost woodcut-like paintings demonstrate the whole range of liveliness that nature and man can offer. Reflecting surfaces, partly broken, once again refer to the interplay, the antipodal nature and culture. Both German Romanticism and Expressionist techniques are received by Davidoff. Similar to Anselm Kiefer or Günther Förg, Jan Davidoff often uses found objects within his environment in his work . For example, he processes patinated historical copper plates as well as industrial steel.
