Jan Fiala (born June 19, 1956 in Slatinice , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech football player and football coach .

Player career

Jan Fiala played for SK Slatinice and Strojírny Uničov in his youth . In 1975 the defender moved to Dukla Prague , with whom he became champions in 1977, 1979 and 1982 and won the cup in 1981 and 1983. In 1982 Fiala was voted Czechoslovak Footballer of the Year.

In 1980 he was in the squad for the European Championship in Italy, but was not used. In 1982 he was part of the Czechoslovak World Cup squad . Fiala played his first international match against Hungary in 1977 , adding another 57 by 1987. He achieved his only goal in 1982 in a 3-1 win in Copenhagen against Denmark ; in this and 31 other encounters he led the team as captain . In the 1st Czechoslovak League, Fiala completed 310 games and scored two goals.

In 1987/88 he played for Le Havre AC , from 1988 to 1991 for FC Bourges and then for two years for the small French club AS Saint-Amand-Montrond . From 1993 to 1995 he played for the Lower Austrian club USC Mallersbach and then for several years for SK Černolice .

Coaching career

Jan Fiala has only worked as an assistant coach at Dukla Prague and Dukla Příbram (1996 to 1998), Viktoria Pilsen (2000 to 2001), FK Teplice (2001), FK Jablonec 97 (2001 to 2003) and SC Xaverov Horní Počernice ( 2004 to 2005).
