Jan Jastram
Jan Jastram (born October 18, 1958 in Rostock ) is a German sculptor .
Life
Jastram was born in 1958 as the son of the graphic artist Inge Jastram and the sculptor Jo Jastram . After graduating from high school, he studied architecture in Dresden. After dropping out, he worked as a moulder in his father's workshop and then learned to be a carpenter and wood turner. In 1984 he took up studies as a wood sculptor at the Technical School for Applied Arts in Schneeberg with Hans Brockhage . He has been a freelance sculptor since 1987. He mostly creates his wooden objects by hand with a chainsaw.
Some of his works are in the possession of the State Museum Schwerin and the Kunsthalle Rostock . His open steles ensemble in front of the Lübeck Regional Court, his wooden sculpture Der König on the Kunst-Kilometer in Neustadt in Holstein and his bronze sculpture Familie in front of the Landeszentralbank Neubrandenburg can be seen in public space . Jan Jastram received the Caspar-David-Friedrich-Förderpreis of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 1997 and the Karlheinz-Goedtke-Gedächtnispreis of the Duchy of Lauenburg in 1998.
