Inge Jastram (* 1934 in Naumburg (Saale) ) is a German graphic designer and artist. In 2019 she received the culture award of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for her life's work .

Life

After attending school in Naumburg (Saale) and an apprenticeship as a tailor , she began studying fashion drawing in Erfurt , which she broke off. From 1952 to 1957 she studied at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art and received her diploma as a book graphic artist. Her mentors were Werner Klemke , Paul Kuhfuss and Ursula Wendorff-Weidt .

She and her husband Jo Jastram moved to Rostock at the end of the 1950s , and since 1973 they both lived on a farm in Kneese near Marlow . Their son is the sculptor Jan Jastram , their daughter is the sculptor Susanne Rast .

Inge Jastram worked as a book and newspaper illustrator for Hinstorff Verlag and Eulenspiegel-Verlag in the GDR and drew murals with Feliks Büttner , among other things . She built a reputation for herself in the 1970s and 1980s as a book illustrator and with architecture-related work. She illustrated books by Klaus Mann , Wolfgang Borchert and Erich Kästner , among others . In 1983, the "Hetaerae Talks" by her illustrated by Lukian (Eulenspiegel-Verlag) were voted one of the "Most Beautiful Books of the Year". After the political change in 1989, she initially mainly drew portraits of prostitutes in Berlin, later she also turned to portraits of children on the subject of prostitution in order to shake up society. This was followed by works on the situation of women and on female figures, including large-format drawings in a mixed technique of charcoal, colored chalks, in pastel, pencil and watercolor or etched. The landscape of her adopted home Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is also reflected in her graphic work.

She underlines her technique as one of the best erasers in Germany through her thematic work for very own emotional worlds, erotic fantasies, vanity and coquetry, but also through a socio-political claim to support minorities. In her artistic work she is expressly committed to an elective affinity with Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and George Grosz . Inge Jastram impresses with her perfection of graphic technology and craftsmanship. Since 2004 she has expanded her work with drawings and watercolors. Numerous etchings show their socio-political demands, e.g. B. their graphic sheets from the circus and showman milieu to be a mouthpiece for minorities.

Inge Jastram received the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Culture Prize for her life's work in 2019 .
