Paul Kuhfuss

Paul Kuhfuss (born August 4, 1883 in Neu-Cölln (Berlin), † August 24, 1960 in Berlin-Pankow ) was a German painter and draftsman.

biography

Kuhfuss was the son of a magistrate in Berlin. From 1902 to 1905 he trained as a drawing teacher at the Royal Art School in Berlin with Philipp Franck . From 1905 to 1907 Kuhfuss studied at the Royal Academic College for Fine Arts Berlin-Charlottenburg (today Berlin University of the Arts ) in the class for landscape painting . In 1907 he began teaching as an art teacher at the higher educational institutions in Berlin. From April 1910 he lived in Pankow.

In 1911 he joined the "Association of Visual Artists", in 1915 he became a member of the German Association of Artists , the Association of Artists "Berlin North" and in 1950 a member of the " Association of Berlin Artists ". In 1925 Kuhfuss passed the state examination as a teacher for the arts teacher and worked in various functions for the Ministry of Culture from 1927 to 1930.

He worked as an illustrator for magazines from the publishers Scherl , Mosse , Ullstein , Jugend (Munich).

In October 1935 he was denounced to the Gestapo by a member of the artists' association “Berlin North” for “ expressionist impact” and “resistance to National Socialist cultural propaganda” as well as the defense of Jewish professional colleagues after an exhibition was opened in the Niederschönhausen Palace . After that, participation in art exhibitions in Berlin was no longer possible.

From 1945 until January 1960 he was a lecturer at the Volkshochschule Berlin-Pankow. From 1949 to 1954 he headed the class “Nude, Stage and Costume Design” at the Textile and Clothing College in Berlin on Warschauer Strasse .

From 1912 to 1960 he took part in 173 exhibitions, in particular the great Berlin art exhibitions (since 1913), exhibitions by the artist groups Freie Secession under the direction of Max Liebermann and the Berlin Secession under the direction of Lovis Corinth , Prussian Academy of the Arts in Berlin, exhibitions by the German Association of Artists, the "Porza", the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR , the Association of Berlin Artists. He was the winner of the Great Berlin Art Exhibition in 1960.

His grave is in the Pankow III cemetery .
