Jan Jurjewitsch Sparre ( Russian Ян Юрьевич Спарре , scientific transliteration Jan Jur'evič Sparre ; * 1891 , † 1962 ) was a Soviet weightlifter .

Career

Jan Sparre was a young Moscow weightlifter who had started this sport in the days of the tsars and was back at the dumbbell immediately after the October Revolution of 1917. In 1918 he became the first Soviet champion. By 1934 he had won a total of 10 Soviet championship titles in three weight classes. He won all of these titles in the then common pentathlon (one-armed snatch and push and two-armed push, snatch and push). With his achievements, Jan Sparre would certainly have achieved excellent placings at many international championships.   • 1924: Olympic Games in Paris : the 1st heavyweight winner, Giuseppe Tonani , Italy , scored 517.5 kg (80-95-100-112.5-130) in the pentathlon. After his active time, Jan Sparre was an official, trainer and referee in weightlifting in the USSR. In 1922 he was elected to the Moscow City Council. At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome , he represented the Soviet Union as a referee .
