Jan Kanty Steczkowski (born October 16, 1862 - September 3, 1929 ) was a Polish politician and Prime Minister .

biography

On December 7, 1917, the economist and lawyer was appointed finance minister by Jan Kucharzewski in his cabinet. He kept this until the end of his term in office on February 27, 1918.

On April 4, 1918, he then succeeded Antoni Ponikowski himself as Prime Minister of the reign of Poland . However, on October 23, 1918, he had to relinquish this office to Józef Świeżyński . From April 4 to September 5, 1918, he also took over the post of finance minister in his cabinet. As a conservative landowner, he hoped to give the German Empire a more generous view of Polish interests in Chełm and Vilnius , especially since Germany still looked victorious on the Eastern Front in the spring and summer of 1918.

In the cabinet of Wincenty Witos he took over the office of finance minister again on November 26, 1920, which he held until the end of his term on September 19, 1921.

After retiring from political life, he became director of the Gospodarstwa Krajowego bank in Warsaw.
