888 Holdings is the 888 Group's holding company and operates 888.com. With over 25 million registered users since it was founded, the company is one of the world's largest operators in the online gaming sector.

history

The 888 Group was founded in Israel in 1997 and is licensed and regulated by the Government of Gibraltar , which is also where the 888 Group headquarters are located. Since September 2005, 888 Holdings PLC has been listed on the London Stock Exchange .

On July 17, 2015, 888 Holdings announced plans to acquire competitor bwin.party digital entertainment for £ 900 million . 888 Holdings was outbid by GVC Holdings, which bwin took over for £ 1.1 billion in September.

Sponsorship

888 was sponsored by the football clubs Middlesbrough FC and Sevilla FC . As of 2006, 888.com was the main sponsor of the World Snooker Championship . The German poker player Michael Keiner was part of 888's team from 2006 to 2010. He competed for 888.com in international tournaments, such as the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas . In March 2007, 888 announced the successful acquisition of the bingo company Globalcom Limited for US $ 43.4 million.

In late 2006, Ladbrokes and 888.com announced that they were negotiating a combination. However, on April 23, 2007, it was announced that due to recent changes to UK tax law and fears of legal action by the US government, the two companies had mutually agreed to suspend negotiations. 888.com's share price fell 6% that day.
