Shane Keith Warne (nickname: Warney) (born September 13, 1969 in Upper Ferntree Gully, Melbourne , Victoria ) is a former Australian cricketer and is widely regarded as the greatest leg spin bowler to date. As the first cricketer in the history of the sport, he scored more than 700 international test wickets. Furthermore, he was selected in 2000 by an international jury of the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack among the five greatest cricketers of the 20th century.

Career

Shane Warne was also considered a "useful" batsman , but his average of 17.32 in tests and 13.05 in One-Day Internationals (ODI) does not justify the status of a real all-rounder . Warne played a total of 145 test matches and 198 ODIs for Australia . He made his debut in test cricket against India in 1992 and made his debut at an ODI in March 1993 against New Zealand . He played his last ODI in January 2005 in a charity game in favor of the victims of the 2004 tsunami. On December 22, 2006, Shane Warne announced his retirement from international cricket. In his last test series, the Ashes series against England in 2006/2007, he was the first player to break the 700 test wicket mark with his spin bowling . In the same series, Warne also scored his 1000th wicket in an international game (ODIs and tests added together). After Muttiah Muralitharan, he was the second bowler to break this sound barrier. After the Ashes, he retired from international cricket. Shane Warne took part with the Australian team in three cricket world championships ( 1996 , 1999 , 2003 ), of which he and his team won two (1999 and 2003).

Others

Warne also attracted attention with a number of scandals. He was involved in a betting scandal in 1998 and had a positive doping test at the 2003 World Cricket Championship. Marriage disputes also frequently brought him to the Australian tabloids . In December 2010, he announced the separation from his wife, the reason is said to be the British model Elizabeth Hurley , who also announced the separation from her husband Arun Nayar. Warne was engaged to her for 3 years before they split in 2013.

In the spring of 2016, Warne was a participant in the Australian reality show I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! .
