history

The Melbourne Stars were founded in 2011 with the restructuring and introduction of the new Big Bash League . On April 6, 2011, they were presented along with the other teams in the league and assigned the color green . As a stadium, they were assigned the Melbourne Cricket Ground and thus the stadium of the team from Victoria . As captain was Cameron White appointed. The first season overseas players were Englishmen Luke Wright and Jade Dernbach . In the first season they reached fourth place with four wins in seven games and qualified for the semifinals. There the team was defeated by the Perth Scorchers with 11 runs .

The new captain for the second season was Shane Warne . This time they placed third this season . In the semifinals they met Perth again and this time lost with 8 wickets ( D / L ) after the already believed victory on the last ball was destroyed by a no ball. Warne was fined because he had previously received a warning due to the team playing too slowly and gave up the captain's dignity under sham to avoid a possible second warning and thus a suspension for the possible final.

In the 2013/14 season Melbourne won all eight games and was first in the table. In the semifinals they met the Hobart Hurricanes , but lost the game with 7 wickets.

The Englishman Kevin Pietersen was signed for the 2014/15 season and achieved third place with five wins, which made the fourth semifinals in a row possible. There, however, the team was eliminated for the fourth time in a row when they lost again to Perth with 18 runs.

Nuer captain for the season 2015/16 was David Hussey . In the preliminary round they reached the semi-finals again with second place and played there against Perth. This time, however, they won it for the first time with seven wickets and thus qualified for the final. There they met the Sydney Thunder , but lost with three wickets.
