Władysław Wróblewski (born March 21, 1875 in Cracow , † August 19, 1951 in Łódź ) was a Polish diplomat , lawyer , politician and Prime Minister .

biography

Professional career and Prime Minister in 1918

After attending school, the descendants of the noble family Wróblewski , who came from Mazovia , studied law . He later worked as a lawyer and notary and as a lecturer in administrative science and administrative law at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow .

On February 27, 1918, he became Foreign Minister in Antoni Ponikovsky's cabinet . He held this office until the end of Ponikowski's term on April 4, 1918.

On the night of November 3rd to 4th, 1918, he was appointed as the successor to Józef Świeżyński by the Regency Council as the last Prime Minister of the Regency Kingdom of Poland . It was a provisional government in Poland, which was occupied by Germany during the First World War . Due to the political events, he renounced the appointment of new ministers, but took over the ministers of the previous government. On November 6, 1918, during his tenure, the Polish state was initially founded. On November 11, 1918, during the last cabinet meeting, power was relinquished to Józef Piłsudski , who had only been released from custody in Magdeburg Fortress a few hours earlier . During his reign he was also foreign minister again. On November 14, 1918, the Second Polish Republic was formally founded .

Republic of Poland and later years of life

On the night of November 17-18, 1918, Jędrzej Moraczewski became the first Prime Minister of the Second Polish Republic and thus Wróblewski's successor.

Even after the establishment of the Republic of Poland, he continued to hold offices within the government. At first he worked as Undersecretary of State in the Council of Ministers, before he was reappointed Foreign Minister in Leopold Skulski's cabinet from December 13 to 16, 1919 .

He later became a diplomat and as such was ambassador to London and Washington, DC. Finally, from 1929 to 1936, he was also chairman of the Polish State Bank ( Bank Polski ).
