Jan Mainka

Jan Mainka (* 1968 ) is a German journalist . He is editor-in-chief and publisher of the German-language weekly newspaper Budapester Zeitung, which appears in Hungary .

Life

Originally from the GDR , Mainka studied business administration in Budapest from 1988 to 1993 . After finishing his studies, he stayed in Budapest and was involved in the re-establishment of the German-language weekly newspaper Der neue Pester Lloyd in 1994 . He was temporarily managing editor there. In 1999 he left the editorial office, started his own business and founded the Budapest newspaper.

After the change of government in 2010 to the national-conservative Orban government , he tried to counteract the critical voices, also from the Federal Republic of Germany , and defended the new media law and the proposed preamble to the new Hungarian constitution with a "national creed", against the criticism of Maximilian Steinbeis polemicized.

Mainka was in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung interviewed and published in the New Right assigned Junge Freiheit . According to his own statements, he would provide his own articles or himself as an interview partner to any newspaper interested in Hungary.
