January Oostergetelo (* 9. February 1934 in Höcklenkamp, since 1974 a district of Uelsen , Grafschaft Bentheim ; † 9. July 1996 in Nordhorn ) was a German farmer , who as SPD - politician from 1976 to 1994 the German Bundestag belonged.

Life

Oostergetelo attended the village school in Höcklenkamp from 1940 to 1948. He worked on his father's farm in Höcklenkamp, ​​which he took over from his parents in the late 1950s. He was a devout Calvinist , married and had three children.

He came to the SPD , which he joined in 1969, through Horst Gerlach , a member of the Bundestag at the time . In the same year the SPD local association Uelsen was founded, and he was elected chairman on November 20, 1969. He developed into an agricultural expert for the party. From 1976 to 1994 (6th to 12th electoral term) he was a member of the German Bundestag . As a representative of the SPD parliamentary group, Oostergetelo was a full member of the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Forestry. In the Berlin debate on June 20, 1991, Oostergetelo voted in favor of the Berlin capital decision.

Together with Horst Waffenschmidt (CDU) he was one of the initiators of the cross-factional prayer breakfast group in the German Bundestag.

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Jan Oostergetelo had devoted himself particularly to reconstruction work in Ukraine . He was chairman and later honorary chairman of the "German-Ukrainian Society in the Grafschaft Bentheim", which organized many internship programs for young people from Ukraine.
