Jan Rouven (* 8. July 1977 as Jan Rouven Füchtener in Frechen ) is a German magician . He performed his show The New Illusions at Tropicana Las Vegas from 2014 to 2016 . He is currently serving a 20-year sentence for possession and distribution of child pornography.

Life

Jan Rouven comes from Frechen and grew up in Kerpen . Since childhood, he has been engaged in magic and worked on various tricks. After passing high school he began to work on his career as a magician with the support of his sponsors, the magic duo Magic Orvellis. In 1999 he was awarded the title “Best Illusionist” by an international jury at a specialist congress. Afterwards Rouven was signed by Warner Bros. Movie World in Bottrop-Kirchhellen . He also appeared in other theme parks such as the Europapark Rust . In the following five years, more than 2.5 million visitors saw his shows. In total, he performed more than 3,800 times during this time.

Rouven then performed for three years at the Royal Palace in Kirrwiller, Alsace . Further appearances followed, for example at the invitation of Bernhard Paul in the Kölnarena , where 70,000 visitors attended the shows.

In 2009 he was a participant in the ProSieben show The next Uri Geller .

In July 2011, Rouven made his Las Vegas debut at the Clarion Hotel . At the end of 2011 he was hired by the Riviera Las Vegas with his magic show. Since November 28, 2014, his 75-minute The New Illusions Show has been shown six days a week in the Tropicana Las Vegas ' 1,200-seat Tropicana Theater . In doing so, Rouven tried to differentiate himself from other illusionists in Las Vegas by means of physically demanding illusions that require a high level of physical fitness. In 2013 and 2015, his shows were named Best Magic Show in Las Vegas. Rouven is friends with the former magician duo Siegfried and Roy and was allowed to use some original props from their Siegfried and Roy show .

Rouven's nickname is "The Man with the Seven Lives". In his shows he uses ideas from the magician Harry Houdini , whom he sees as one of his main sources of inspiration . In 2014 he was in the ZDF telecast Houdini - Game with the death of the series Terra X to see and made for the show some of Houdini's tricks to, such as the liberation from the straitjacket that Rouven between the skyscrapers of Las Vegas presented .

Convicted for possession of child pornography

On March 16, 2016, Jan Rouven Füchtener was arrested by the FBI on suspicion of possession and distribution of child pornography . During a search of his mansion in Las Vegas, around 3,225 videos and 105 images showing "not just children having sex, but sadistic violent acts" were found on his computers and external hard drives. Other files were later discovered in a Dropbox account. Rouven has since been in custody at the Henderson Detention Center, Nevada. His show The New Illusions at Tropicana Casino has been discontinued. On April 6, 2016, the indictment read out in the Las Vegas court. Jan Rouven denied the allegations; Visitors would have had access to the computers in his villa. His application for bail was denied on April 19, 2016 by the judge Gloria Navarro. The reasons given were the risk of fleeing to Germany and the danger to the public. In addition, during further analysis of the material, the FBI found around 40,000 child pornographic images that were distributed throughout the house.

The trial, originally scheduled for July 20, 2016 and postponed several times, began in mid-November 2016 at the Federal District Court . It was led by federal judge Gloria Navarro, who also passed the verdict on her own, as Rouven refused a jury trial . According to court files , an undercover FBI investigator came into contact with Rouven via the GigaTribe network in August 2015 and thus obtained incriminating material. On November 17, 2016, Rouven pleaded guilty to the possession and distribution of child pornography, but retracted his confession in early July 2017. He justified this with what he believed to be wrong advice from his previous lawyers.

In February 2019, the judge sentenced him to 20 years in prison and a fine of $ 500,000 to be paid to the victims. He is serving his sentence in the Englewood Federal Correctional Institution , Colorado , a low-security prison .
