Jan Schindzielorz (born August 8, 1978 in Goslar , Federal Republic of Germany ) is a German athlete .

Life

He began his sporting career at the age of eight in his hometown with LG Forchheim . He later moved to LAC Quelle Fürth and trained there under the high jump coach Stanislaus Olczyk. In the age group of youngsters under 18 years of age (U18), he started at national championships in high jump and hurdle sprint. In 1995, Schindzielorz took second place in the high jump at the German Youth Championships in Rhede (U18) with a personal best of 2.06 m . From 1996 he concentrated exclusively on the hurdles sprint and moved to Munich in 2002, where he trained at the Munich Olympic base until the end of his career. Schindzielorz's career was marked by injuries. In 2004 a torn hamstring prevented qualification for the Olympic Games in Athens . He achieved his greatest successes in his youth and junior years. Between 1994 and 2006 he was several times Bavarian and South German champions in high jump and hurdles sprint. In 2004 he won his first German championship title among adults. Schindzielorz played ten times for the German national athletics team. In the world annual best list of 2002 he was in 21st place (indoor) and 27th place (open air). In the summer of 2006 he completed his last competition for the time being.

After graduating from high school, Schindzielorz studied sports science at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and at the Technical University of Munich, and in 2010 received his bachelor's degree in sports management from the University of Applied Management in Erding.

After a break from competition for almost 10 years, Jan Schindzielorz has been participating in competitions again since 2016. He became German champion several times in the senior classes M35 and M40. In 2017 he won the gold medal in the M35 age group at the European Masters Athletics Championships and set a new championship record with 14.11 seconds. In 2018 he became world champion for the first time in his career in the M40 age group over 110 m hurdles. In the run-up to this World Cup in Malaga, Spain, he set a new European record in the M40 age group with 14.13 seconds. In 2019 he was also world champion in this age group over 60 m hurdles in the hall. Jan Schindzielorz also currently holds Bavarian and German records in several age groups (U23, active and seniors) over 60 m hurdles, 110 m hurdles, 100 m and 200 m. In 2019 he improved the German record in the M40 age group over 60 m hurdles to 7.94 seconds. In 2019 he started at the German Championships for Active Athletes in Berlin's Olympic Stadium and qualified for the final four days before his 41st birthday. This makes him one of the oldest finalists in a sprint discipline at the German Athletics Championships of all time.
