Jan Stankiewicz (born April 24, 1969 in Allhelgona) is a Swedish handball player .

Career

Jan Stankiewicz played in Sweden for Norröna IL, Irsta HF and LUGI HF and then in Norway for Runar IL Stavanger. In 1999 the 1.95 meter tall handball goalkeeper moved to Germany for VfL Gummersbach . Here he achieved notoriety when he collided so hard with his compatriot Johan Petersson in the Bundesliga match against THW Kiel on November 30, 2001 that he swallowed his tongue and lost three teeth. From 2003 he played in Switzerland for Pfadi Winterthur , with whom he won the championship in 2004. In 2005 he went back to Norway, where he stood between the posts at Fyllingen Bergen until 2011. Due to personnel problems, he was reactivated by Fyllingen in 2013.

Jan Stankiewicz played 83 international matches for the Swedish national team , with whom he became vice world champion in 1997 and European champion in 1998 .
