Jan Stejskal (born January 15, 1962 in Brno ) is a former Czech football player and current coach .

Club career

Jan Stejskal played for Zbrojovka Brno in his youth . In 1981 he moved to RH Cheb to do his military service there. He was given to RH Sušice, but returned to Cheb for the 1982/83 season . There the goalkeeper came to his first league appearances.

In 1983/84 Sparta Prague secured the services of the talent. Stejskal made 14 appearances in his first year at Sparta and 22 appearances in his second season. He was a regular goalkeeper from the 1985/86 season. 1990 Stejskal moved to the English Premier League to Queens Park Rangers where he spent four successful years. In 1994 he returned to the Czech Republic and signed with Sparta's greatest rival Slavia Prague . In 1998 he moved to Viktoria Žižkov , but made only four games there.

National team

Jan Stejskal made his international debut on May 29, 1986 against Iceland when he came on in the 74th minute of play for Luděk Mikloško . He was in the goal of Czechoslovakia at the 1990 World Cup . His last game played Stejskal on May 25, 1994 against Lithuania, in the second half he was substituted on for Petr Kouba .

Coaching career

In the 1999/00 season Stejskal worked as a goalkeeping coach at Slavia Prague. In 2000 he moved to Sparta Prague, where he has held this position ever since. Since 2002 he has also been a goalkeeper and assistant coach for the Czech national team.
