Jan Tyrawa (born November 4, 1948 in Kuźnice Świdnickie , German Fellhammer near Waldenburg , Lower Silesian Voivodeship , Poland ) has been bishop of Bydgoszcz since 2004 .

Life

After graduating from high school, he entered the seminary of Wroclaw . On May 26, 1973, he received the sacrament of ordination through Cardinal Bolesław Kominek , Archbishop of Wroclaw .

On 24 September 1988 it appointed Pope John Paul II. To auxiliary bishop in Breslau and titular bishop of Nova Sinna . The Archbishop of Wroclaw, Cardinal Henryk Roman Gulbinowicz , donated him the episcopal ordination on November 5, 1988 in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist (Wroclaw Cathedral); Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Gorzów , Józef Michalik , and Tadeusz Rybak , auxiliary bishop in Wroclaw.

On February 24, 2004, Pope John Paul II appointed him the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Bydgoszcz. The inauguration took place on March 28, 2004 in the Cathedral Church in Bydgoszcz.

In the Polish Bishops' Conference he is responsible for culture and monument protection. He is also the representative of the Polish episcopate for contacts with the Austrian Bishops' Conference .
