Jan de Bakker (born September 7, 1971 ) is a former Dutch handball goalkeeper and coach. The goalkeeper played for TSV GWD Minden in the Bundesliga . In 1998 he was voted Dutch handball player of the year.

Career

De Bakker has been playing handball since he was eight. Coming from the youth of HV Quintus , he moved to E&O in Emmen in 1993 . He stayed there for six years and won two Dutch championships (1996 and 1997) and cup winners (1996 and 1999). Then he joined the German second division TV Emsdetten . Because of his good performance, he was also interesting for Bundesliga clubs. For the 2001/02 season he signed with SG Solingen . Due to the Solingen relegation, the contract that was only valid for the Bundesliga became invalid and de Bakker moved to TSV GWD Minden. In 2004 he returned to E&O and ended his career in 2006. In March 2013 it was reactivated for a short time. Between 2006 and 2013 he had also occasionally played for the club's third team.

For the Dutch national team , he completed 82 internationals.

In 2013 de Bakker became goalkeeping coach of Sercodak Dalfsen's women's team .
