Jan of Stobnica

Jan von Stobnica , also Jan de Stobnica , Ioannes Stobnicensis or Jan ze Stobnicy (* around 1470 in Stobnica ; † around 1530), was a Polish geographer , astronomer and philosopher ( Scotist ).

Jan von Stobnica was a professor at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków and the first rector of the Lubrański Academy in Poznan . In 1512 he had the book Introductio in Ptolomei Cosmographiam printed in the printing works of Florian Ungler in Cracow . It contained the existing information about America as well as the maps of the continent, which were probably based on the world map Waldseemüller from 1507. He also wrote textbooks in the fields of biology , metaphysics , grammar and logic .
