Jane Greer
Jane Greer (born September 9, 1924 in Washington, DC as Bettejean Greer , † August 24, 2001 in Los Angeles ) was an American actress .
life and work
After winning a beauty contest at a very early age she worked since her teenage years as a model for furs and later thanks to Contra Alto -Altstimme as a singer a big band, mostly for Enric Madrigueras orchestra in the Latin Club Del Rio in Washington, DC your own account, she suffered with Facial paralysis for 15 years. In her opinion, the therapeutic exercises that followed made her expressive acting possible.
Howard Hughes discovered her for the film business after seeing a photo of her in Life magazine, the cover of which she featured on June 2, 1947. Her greatest success was the role of femme fatale Kathie Moffat in the film noir classic Goldenes Poison alongside Robert Mitchum from 1947. In addition to Goldenes Poison , she made three other films for RKO Pictures , including a film adaptation of the comic book Dick Tracy from 1945. In Die Rote Schlinge , a film noir by director Don Siegel , she played again in 1949 alongside Robert Mitchum.
In 1953 Jane Greer largely withdrew from the film business and only sporadically took over individual roles, including guest appearances in television series. In 1984 she got the role of the mother of Kathie Moffat in the remake of Goldenes Poison . One of her last roles was as restaurant critic and failed actress Vivian Smythe Niles in David Lynch's mystery series Twin Peaks .
Private life
In 1943 she married the American singer, entertainer, actor and band leader Rudy Vallée (1901–1986). The marriage ended in divorce in 1944. In 1947 she married the lawyer and businessman Edward Lasker (1912-1997), with whom she had three children. Jane Greer died of cancer at the age of 76 and was buried in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles.
Her son Lawrence Lasker was nominated twice for Academy Awards - as producer of Time of Awakening and as a screenwriter for WarGames . His brother Alex Lasker is also active in the film industry and was, among other things as a screenwriter of Firefox , Rangoon - in the heart of the storm and Tears of the Sun known.
