Jane Gregory , née Bredin , (born June 30, 1959 in Bromley , † April 1, 2011 ) was a British dressage rider who took part in two Olympic Games.

Life

Jane Gregory was born in Bromley, a suburb of London (now part of London) in 1959. Her parents did not ride themselves. She was given the opportunity to ride for the first time at the age of seven. However, she did not get her first real riding lessons until she was twelve, when her grandmother bought her first own horse, a Connemara pony . In the following years she rode mostly jumping and eventing. In 1976, after moving to North Cornwall , she won the junior championship of the Club Eventing Championships .

In 1979, through dressage judge Janet Poulden, she got the chance to compete in a national dressage test as a test rider (first rider before the regular starting field). Here she was discovered by the British dressage rider David Hunt, who however realized that she still needed a lot of help with riding. Gregory learned from Hunt over the next two years and worked as a rider in his stable from 1981 to 1992.

In 1992 she moved to Suzie Cumine's stable, who made Cupid available to her . With this she took part in her first championship in 1994, the World Equestrian Games in The Hague. Here she reached 7th place with the British team and was 27th in the individual ranking. At the CHIO Aachen 2005 she was again a member of the British team.

At the 1996 Olympic Games , she took part again with Cupid . Here, however, she was the strike result for the British team, which reached rank 8. In the individual ranking, she finished 42nd.

In the following years she was missing a successful horse, so she did not take part in championships. In 2001 she moved into her own facility in Great Cheverell , Wiltshire , with dressage rider Aram Gregory, who started for Hong Kong and with whom she had been living for a good 15 years . The wedding followed in 2006, Jane Bredin took her husband's surname.

After training several young horses, she was nominated for the 2008 British Olympic Team with one of these. Trained by Ulla Salzgeber reached at the 2008 Olympics with Lucky Star Rank 6 with the team and rank 30 in the individual standings.

Gregory died on April 1, 2011, presumably of a heart attack.
