Janell Burse (born May 19, 1979 in New Orleans , Louisiana , United States ) is a former professional basketball player. Most recently she played in 2009 for the Seattle Storm in the Women's National Basketball Association and in 2010/11 in Europe for the Polish team Wisła Can-Pack Krakow in the EuroLeague .
Career
college
Burse studied at Tulane University from 1997 to 2001 . During this time she also played for the university's women's basketball team, the Tulane Green Wave .
Women's National Basketball Association
In 2001 she was then selected in the WNBA Draft in 28th place overall by the Minnesota Lynx . Burse played three seasons for the Lynx until she was transferred together with Sheri Sam to the Seattle Storm for Amanda Lassiter and a first round pick (6th pick) in the 2004 WNBA Draft . In the 2004 season she won her first WNBA championship with the Storm, but in her first season in Seattle she was mostly a substitute for Kamila Vodichkova . Since Vodichkova left the franchise after this season, the Storm decided to fill the vacated starting position with Burse. The Storm Burses subsequently extended their contract for another two years. In the 2005 season she was for the first time over an entire season in the starting lineup of a WNBA team. She confirmed the trust placed in her with a good performance. Burse finished the season with a point average of 10 with a playing time of 25.3 minutes per game. With this performance she was one of the best centers in the league. In the following season , she was always in the starting lineup of Storm when she played. Due to their good performance (points average: 11.1; rebound average 6.6 - both personal bests) the Storm extended their contract for another year. In the 2007 season she always started from the beginning, as in the previous season , but at the end of the regular season she suffered an injury to the ligaments in her left wrist. Therefore she had to sit out for the rest of the season. Also in the 2008 season it should be an integral part of the franchise, so the Storm extended their contract one more time. In May, however, she decided to suspend the entire season in order to thoroughly recover from the rigors of the past few years. After this break, Burse returned to the WNBA and again signed a contract with the Seattle Storm. Although it was used in every game, the 2009 season was the last for Burse in the WNBA.
Europe
For several years she was also active for clubs in Europe.
