Jani Lane
Jani Lane , actually John Kennedy Oswald , (born February 1, 1964 in Akron , Ohio , † August 11, 2011 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American rock singer. He was the front man and main songwriter of the glam metal band Warrant for a long time .
Career
Jani Lane was born John Kennedy Oswald in Akron. He attended Field High School near Mogadore and worked as a musician at an early age. After he had achieved a certain regional fame as a drummer with his first band Cyren in Ohio , he moved to Florida in 1983 . There he took the stage name "Jani Lane" and switched from drums to singing.
In 1985 Lane moved to Los Angeles and a year later joined Warrant as a singer , where he soon took on the role of songwriter. What followed was a very successful period with several gold and platinum records. Lane left the band for the first time in 1993, but returned the following year. Due to personal and business differences, he left the band again in 2004 and after a brief return in January 2008 he finally left the band in September of that year.
Lane was also active as a solo artist during this period. His first official solo album Back Down to One was released in June 2003. As a songwriter, apart from Warrant, he appeared with the title "The One That Got Away", which he made together with Keri Kelli for the album Along Came a Spider by Alice Cooper wrote. He was also a member of the hard rock project Saints of the Underground and toured with the band Great White in the summer of 2010 as a replacement for Jack Russell .
On August 11, 2011, Lane, who had been arrested several times for alcohol offenses, was found dead at the Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills at the age of 47 . The cause of death was initially unclear, but was later given as alcohol poisoning.
