James Kottak (born December 26, 1962 in Louisville , Kentucky ) is an American musician and drummer for the rock band Scorpions from 1996 to March 2016 .

Musician career

Kottak played drums with Kingdom Come , MSG , Warrant , Wild Horses and Axxis , among others , as well as on some tribute CDs for bands such as Led Zeppelin . In 1996, Kottak joined the Scorpions. Now and then he plays at concerts with musicians from their environment, such as Michael Schenker or Uli Jon Roth . In September 2016, the Scorpions officially announced Kottak's exit from the band. Kottak had been replaced by Mikkey Dee since May 2016 due to illness .

Kottak also has their own band, which released their first album in 1999 under the band name Krunk . His then wife Athena Kottak also played drums in this band (until 2010), while James Kottak himself took on guitar and vocals under the name Jimmy Ratchitt. With the second album Therupy , released in 2006 , the band finally renamed themselves to Kottak . In May 2010 the Kottak album Rock'n Roll Forever was released . With the release of the fourth album "Attack", James Kottak is the only remaining original member of the band named after him. In autumn 2011 he toured Europe as a support act for the power metal band Edguy, who were friends with him.

In early April 2014, he was arrested at Dubai International Airport after insulting Muslims while drunk, pulling down his pants and making indecent gestures in public. He was then sentenced to one month in prison by the Dubai Misdemeanour Court in Dubai .

Gradually, during these incidents, he was suspended from the Scorpions. After a withdrawal he played with the Scorpions again from November 2014 and can also be heard on the album Return to Forever .

Kottak was married to Athena Lee , Tommy Lee's sister , and they have three children with her (* 1991, * 1993 and * 1997).
