Scorpions Live in 3D is a Blu-ray Disc from the Scorpions . It contains an appearance from the band's last tour, which was recorded on April 15, 2011 in the Saarlandhalle in Saarbrücken . The accompanying double CD is entitled Live 2011 - Get Your Sting and Blackout . Both carrier media were published on October 16, 2011, initially exclusively by Media Markt across Europe . In February 2012, the Blu-ray was also released in the USA .

History of origin

After Rudolf Schenker in the Universal Studios Hollywood film Avatar in 3D had seen haunted him the desire to record a concert in 3D format. After the Scorpions released their studio album Sting in the Tail in 2010 and announced their last tour, the idea was realized in April 2011. The concert was recorded by Music-Delight GmbH using an outside broadcast vehicle to control ten 3D cameras and an additional 3D handheld camera. Gerd F. Schultze took over the direction . The recordings were made live and without prior rehearsal. With the 11 3D cameras used, the production set a new record for live events, never before have so many 3D cameras been used.

The Scorpions cooperated for production with the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, among others .

The 3D effect is achieved using the included 3D glasses . A 35-minute making-of was also included. The sound can be selected either as normal stereo or as surround sound.

reception

Jens Peters from Rock Hard said the Blu-Ray was recommendable. Image and sound are "excellent". The only point of criticism is “the constant illumination of the stage with very bright, white light, which [is] at the expense of the atmosphere, but probably cannot be implemented in any other way technically”.
