Sting in the Tail is the 17th studio album by the German hard rock band Scorpions and, according to the band, should originally be the last studio album until the release of the album Return to Forever in 2015. For the release of the album, the band started their farewell tour Get Your Sting and Blackout World Tour .

After the band had enlisted the help of third parties for the songwriting with Desmond Child on the previous studio album Humanity - Hour I , this time the band relied more on collaborative songwriting. With the Swedish producers Mikael Nord Andersson and Martin Hansen , the band found two fans of the music, which, according to Rudolf Schenker, was positively reflected in the compositions. In addition to the producer duo, Robert Ernlund, singer of "Treat", and Eric Bazilian from the Hooters were also involved in the compositions. The Swedes Andersson and Hansen were responsible as producers for the recording of the vocals and the drum tracks, which took place in separate music studios in Stockholm . The guitar recordings and the mix took place in Rudolf Schenker's studio in Germany. The album was mastered at Sterling Sound in New York. In Germany, the album was awarded a gold record for 100,000 copies sold in the first month . In January 2011 it also received a platinum record for 200,000 records that have now been sold.

According to Klaus Meine , the idea of disbanding the band after the album and the accompanying tour went back to the band manager. The band thought the album was "a pretty nice ending to a 40-year career".

The track list of the album is written on the cover of the back in white letters, with 7 letters in red on the same in the titles Raised on Rock , Sting in the Tail , Rock Zone , Turn You On , Let's Rock , Spirit of Rock and The Best Is Yet to Come , however, there is also the hint it Rocks .

reception

The album received mostly positive reviews in the German-language music press. Ulf Kubanke from the online magazine laut.de calls Sting in the Tail an "extremely fun [...] piece of music" and "a journey through time to the absolute heyday of hard rock". Jenny Rönnebeck from Rock Hard notes that the album is not about the "resigned departure of a frustrated band" and that it shows the Scorpions at their best. German-speaking mass media also took notice of the album. Image Online headlined on 19 March 2010 "rock dinosaurs publish farewell CD" and described the album as "Big Bang", the FAS dealt in the feature with the band and the "Mystery Rock" and for the world , the Scorpions say goodbye with the album "Wertkonservativ".

The English-speaking music press also received the album largely positively. Thom Jurek from Allmusic draws parallels to the band's successes in the late 1970s and early 1980s and sums up that both the Scorpions and their fans could be proud of this farewell album. The Classicrockrevisted website selected Sting in the Tail as album of the year 2010.
