World Wide Live is the second live album by the German hard rock band Scorpions after the Tokyo tape was released in 1978 and was released in the middle of 1985. The recordings were made during the Love at First Sting tour in 1984/1985. It is one of the most popular live rock music albums, for a long time it was the second best-selling live album worldwide after Peter Frampton's Comes Alive and is one of the band's most commercially successful releases.
background
World Wide Live was created as the group's second live album during the Love at First Sting tour, which began on January 23, 1984 and ended on September 5, 1986. The recordings for the recordings published on the album are from the following concerts:
- Bercy , Paris, France (February 29, 1984)
- The Forum , Los Angeles, CA, USA (April 24-25, 1984)
- Sports Arena , San Diego, CA, USA (April 26, 1984)
- Pacific Amphitheater , Costa Mesa, CA, USA (April 28, 1984)
- Sports Hall , Cologne, West Germany (November 17, 1984)
While the group's first live album was recorded at one venue on different days, recordings from different concerts have been compiled here. The cover was designed by Franz Epping. The first release on CD appeared despite sufficient storage space without the titles Another Peace of Meat , Six String Sting and the two Can't Get Enough parts. Only the digitally revised re-release, which was released in 2001, contains the entire album on CD. The originally released album was released as a double LP.
Title selection
This live album contains only song material from the albums released after the previous live album. This applies to songs from the albums Lovedrive (1979), Animal Magnetism (1980), Blackout (1982) and Love at First Sting (1984). Overlaps of songs from other live albums, as is otherwise the case with similar live releases, do not occur here. Rather, World Wide Live is a summary of the four albums mentioned and now also presents the new guitarist Matthias Jabs with his live skills, in whose place Uli Jon Roth played at Tokyo Tapes .

reception
criticism
The album received mostly positive reviews in the international press. The All Music Guide to Rock, for example, described it as "one of the best Scorpions albums ever released" and also called it "an absolute must for fans of the genre". Christof glue wrote in 2009, Metal Hammer , World Wide Live "is one of the most legendary live albums in rock history". "The songs on it perfectly sum up the highlights of the post-Roth era." Uwe Lerch from Rock Hard magazine also wrote briefly and succinctly: "Actually, this criticism is superfluous, because everyone who is interested in this record has probably already had it. For those who are not quite conclusive, let me say briefly : all hits of the last six years, great atmosphere, good (maybe too good again) sound and strong presentation (with color poster). I'll save one grade (it would be in the 9 range). " The average grade awarded is 9.5 out of a possible 10.
Sales figures
To date, World Wide Live has sold over 7 million copies worldwide.

In Switzerland and Great Britain it reached number 18, while in France it was at number 20 and in Sweden at number 9.
