Dreamtime is an album by the British rock band The Cult . The album was released in 1984 through the Beggars Banquet Records label. It was a first respectable success for the band and reached number 21 on the British charts.
Emergence
After Death Cult became the band The Cult, they went into the studio in early 1984 to record their debut. The album was recorded at Rockfield Studios, Monmouth , Wales , in late March to early April 1984 and mixed at Eel Pie in Twickenham in late April 1984. The text of the song Horse Nation comes almost verbatim from the book Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee ( Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee ) the writer Dee Brown . Some early pressings that were still on the old Situation Two label contain a different version of Go West (Crazy Spinning Circles) . Disliked this version, the band re-recorded the piece in June 1984 after signing with Beggars Banquet Records . It then came on the album as Go West .
reception
Allmusic's Ned Raggett highlighted Ian Astbury's vocals and Billy Duffy's "dramatic, western-influenced, dark-psychedelic" guitar playing. Even if some things are sometimes too shrill and dramatic to be easily digestible, the band cannot be accused of a lack of energy. Despite the fact that the band will improve soon anyway, the Dreamtime album is still attractive enough to listen to. He awarded four out of five stars.
