Esenler (formerly Litros and Avas in Greek ) is a district in the Turkish province of İstanbul and a district on the European side of İstanbul . Until 1992 the place was part of Bakirköy , then until 1994 of Güngören . Esenler has 458,857 inhabitants (as of 2014).
The Esenler bus station is to the east of the district .
In Ottoman times, the place was populated by Greek farmers. During the population exchange between Greece and Turkey , the Greek residents were deported in 1923 and Turks from Macedonia settled in their place .
