Electric is the third studio album by the rock band The Cult . The album was released in 1987 by the Beggars Banquet Records label and, with the production of Rick Rubin , is the band's first album to be predominantly hard rock . The album was also included in the anthology 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die .
Emergence
The album Love was the breakthrough for the band. In the summer of 1986 The Cult recorded twelve tracks at Manor Studios in Oxfordshire for their successor, which was officially titled Peace , but were dissatisfied with the sound of the result provided by Steve Brown, who had already worked on Love . The album was therefore recorded again with Rick Rubin and the title sequence changed, Andy Wallace worked as a sound engineer. There were also changes in the band: Jamie Stewart took over the rhythm guitar, the former bassist of Zodiac Mindwarp , Kid Chaos, joined them.
reception
The album peaked at number four in the UK . Allmusic's Ned Raggett gave Electric 4.5 out of five stars. He praised it as "enjoyment from start to finish," with the exception of Peace Dog and the Steppenwolf cover Born to Be Wild .
