Janina Konarska ( pseudonym ), actually Janina Seideman , married Janina Konarska-Słonimska (born April 30, 1900 in Łódź ; † June 9, 1975 in Warsaw ) was a Polish painter.

Life

Janina Seideman was born into a family of Jewish textile manufacturers. Through her aunt Helena Seideman, she was related to the manufacturer Edward Heiman-Jarecki and his son Aleksander Heiman-Jarecki. She studied at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts in the graphics class with Władysław Skoczylas . In 1918 she took the stage name Konarska.

In 1932 Konarska took part in the art competitions of the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles with the woodcut stadium and won the silver medal in the "Graphics" competition.

In 1934 she married the writer Antoni Słonimski and fled with him during the German-Soviet occupation of Poland in 1939 to Paris and in 1940 to Great Britain. They did not return to Poland until 1951.

Konarska and Słonimski are buried in the Laski cemetery.
