Jannik Freese (born August 13, 1986 in Oldenburg ) is a German basketball player. Since January 2018 he has been part of the squad of the first division club Hamburg Towers .
Career
Freese played for the Oldenburg TB as a teenager. After a year in the United States, where he played for the basketball team at Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland , he returned to his home country in 2005 and joined second division SG FT / MTV Braunschweig. During the 2007/08 season he made his debut for Braunschweig's Bundesliga team - the SG's cooperation club - then called Phantoms , but decided to change for the following season. From 2008 he played for the LTi Gießen 46ers in the basketball Bundesliga and thanks to a double license initially received additional match practice for Gießen's cooperation partner Lich in the 2nd Bundesliga. For the 2011/2012 season he left Giessen, returned to his home country and signed a contract with EWE Baskets Oldenburg .
After three years in Oldenburg, Freese left the club for the 2014/2015 season. In the hope of more playing time, Freese joined the promoted Crailsheim Merlins for the 2014/2015 season .
After his short contract with the Crailsheim Merlins expired, he signed a two-month contract with Alba Berlin in early 2015 . Before the contract expired, it was extended until the end of the season.
For the 2015/2016 season, Freese signed a contract with Eisbären Bremerhaven and after a year in Bremerhaven returned to Braunschweig in August 2016, where he had earned his first Bundesliga spurs ten years earlier. At the beginning of December 2016, his contract in Braunschweig was terminated “by mutual agreement”. Freese had played twelve league games for Braunschweig and achieved an average of 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per use. One day after leaving Braunschweig, EWE Baskets Oldenburg announced his return, for which he had booked 27 Bundesliga appearances (1.1 points on average) by the end of the season.
In September 2017, Freese was presented as a new addition to the second division club SC Rasta Vechta . The Lower Saxony gave him a six-week contract, after which he left the club.
In mid-January 2018, Freese was signed by Hamburg Towers (2nd Bundesliga ProA). In the 2018/19 season he became ProA champion with the Hamburgers and thus rose to the BBL. Freese was on the field in 41 games on the way to the title and achieved averages of 10.6 points and five rebounds per encounter. In July 2019, he extended his contract with the Towers for another two years.
Others
In addition to his job as a basketball player, Freese studied business administration .
