history

The basketball department of TV 1860 Lich was founded in 1962 by Hermann Hinkel. The development of the team has been very successful over the decades and culminated in promotion to the basketball Bundesliga in 1999 after promotion to the second basketball league in 1992 . There, however, the Licher only got three wins, so that they were relegated back to the second division. Since then, the Licher BasketBears have played in the basketball division, where they competed in the 2nd League South, the ProA and since 2009 in the ProB (since 2010 ProB South). Since July 2009, the team, which previously had various sponsor names, competed under the name Licher BasketBären, which was based on the name in the first division season.

The first team was a sporting cooperation partner of the Gießen 46ers , which play in the basketball league . After the shareholders of BasketBären announced their withdrawal, the Bundesliga club expressed interest in taking over the license, which is still valid. At the beginning of June, TV 1860 Lich and the Gießen 46ers finally agreed to transfer the right to participate. The relicensing process on the part of the league ended in mid-July 2017 with a majority decision by the second division clubs positive for the 46ers. The Mittelhessen started the 2017/18 season under the name Gießen 46ers Rackelos . In addition to various players from the last Licher second division squad, coaches Rolf Scholz and Lutz Mandler also switched to the rackelos.
