Clement Tyron McCoy (* 20th November 1972 ) is a from the United States originating basketball coach, for several clubs as a player in the German basketball league as well as in Austria has played. Since June 2018 he has been the assistant coach of the Bundesliga club Ratiopharm Ulm .

Career as a player

McCoy was during his college days for VCU Rams active and there is already a very successful scorer with a 40-point game in 1993 in the NCAA Division I . With over 1,000 points in college, he placed himself among the top 20 basket shooters in the history of the university team.

After his college days he came to Europe and initially played in Malta and Austria for Union Gmunden. In 1998 he came to Germany for the BBL and played for three Hessian Bundesliga clubs for one year in a row. At his first stop in Giessen, he reached the cup final with his team in 1999 and was individually the best scorer of the team in the main Bundesliga round. Then he played in Lich, which, however, had to be relegated as a climber. During his time in Lich he was invited to the BBL All-Star Game for the first time . In the following year, when he played for Frankfurt, he was again appointed to the South selection of the BBL All-Star Game. With this club he reached the play-offs for the German championship and the cup semi-finals in 2001 and was again individually the best point collector of his team. The following season he started with the Skyliners, but moved to EWE Baskets Oldenburg , where he played for the next six years, in the winter after an injury and the re-engagement of Chad Austin . From the following season he always reached the play-offs with the team, except for his last year in Oldenburg, but, like in Frankfurt 2001, never made it past the quarter-finals. With the exception of the injury-ridden last year in Oldenburg, McCoy was consistently the team's top scorer and reached his BBL career best in points in a game against his former club from Frankfurt on April 6, 2002 with 43 points. In his last season he moved again to Leverkusen, where the Giants played their last Bundesliga season for the time being before the first division license was sold to Düsseldorf . After a good third place in the main round, the Leverkusen Giants were eliminated in the play-off quarter-finals against Frankfurt.

Career as a coach

After his playing career, McCoy stayed in Germany and the BBL and started his professional coaching career as assistant coach to Rick Stafford in Ludwigsburg in 2008. After Stafford's dismissal at the end of the season, he represented the latter for a game as head coach. In the following season he was again assistant, this time to Tolga Öngören .

For the 2010/2011 season, McCoy became Stefan Koch's assistant coach at the Artland Dragons . He worked there as his assistant coach until summer 2013. For the 2013/2014 season, McCoy became the new head coach of Artland Dragons after Koch left. After a poor performance in the 2014/2015 season, the Artland Dragons announced their withdrawal from the basketball Bundesliga and the contract with Tyron McCoy was terminated.

At the end of December 2015, he became the head coach of Walter Tigers Tübingen as the successor to Igor Perovic , who had resigned from his position. On November 20, 2017, McCoy was released in Tübingen after the team had lost the first ten games of the 2017/18 Bundesliga game year under his leadership. In mid-June 2018 he was hired as an assistant coach by the Bundesliga club Ratiopharm Ulm .

Awards

On September 26, 2010, Tyron McCoy was inducted into the Hall of Fame of EWE Baskets Oldenburg . His jersey number 14 at the time is no longer given in his honor.
