Janusz Zarenkiewicz

Janusz Zarenkiewicz (born August 3, 1959 in Głuchołazy ) is a former Polish super heavyweight boxer (+ 91 kg). His greatest successes were winning a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympic Games and the 1985 European Championships .

National championships

Zarenkiewicz was Polish Junior Champion in 1977 and Polish Champion in the U-20 age group in 1979. At the U-20 championships in 1978, however, he failed in the quarter-finals against Leszek Rybiński.

In 1981, 1982, 1986, 1987 and 1989 he was Polish champion, 1985 runner-up after losing to Marek Pałucki in the final. At the championships in 1980 he was subject to Jacek Kucharczyk in the preliminary round, at the competitions in 1984 he lost in the quarterfinals to Roman Ślusarczyk.

At Polish Championships he defeated u. a. Ryszard Misiak, Roman Ślusarczyk, Leszek Rybiński, Leszek Gajda, Jacek Srocki, Czesław Dawiec, Marek Kaszkiel, Zbigniew Ejsmont, Marian Klepka, Leszek Kropiwnicki, Władysław Wydra and Marek Chodeckzard Paisław, Marian Klass, Stanisławi.

International competitions

In 1983 he took part in the 6th International Feliks Stamm Memorial in Warsaw , where he reached the final by knocking out the Bulgarian Pepi Emilov and was defeated by his compatriot Marek Pałucki on points.

At the 26th European Championships in 1985 in Budapest , he defeated the multiple Italian champions Biagio Chianese 5-0 on points in the quarterfinals , but then did not go to the semi-final fight and thus got out of the championship with the bronze medal.

At the 4th World Cup in 1986 in Reno (Nevada) , he was defeated in the quarterfinals Vyacheslav Yakovlev. However, he defeated this in April 1987 at the 7th Intercup in Hemsbach, Germany . There he also reached the final through walkover against Andreas Schnieders , where he won by disqualifying his opponent Alexander Miroschnitschenko .

In 1987 he lost in the quarterfinals of the 27th European Championships in Turin , by losing points to Ulli Kaden . The 8th Intercup in April 1988 in Karlsruhe was also the venue for the Olympic qualification for Seoul . He qualified through victories against the Swede Peter Nyman and the German Andreas Schnieders.

At the 24th Summer Olympics in Seoul in 1988, he won the bronze medal. He defeated Harold Arroyo from Puerto Rico 5-0, and again Andreas Schnieders 3-2. In the semifinals he did not appear, which means that his opponent Lennox Lewis entered the final without a fight.

At the 28th European Championships in Athens in 1989 , he lost to Alexander Miroshnichenko prematurely in the quarter-finals.
