Biagio Chianese (born October 28, 1961 in Trieste ) is a former Italian boxer.

Career

As an amateur boxer, he was Italian heavyweight champion in 1981 (81-91 kg), and in 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987 Italian super heavyweight champion (+ 91 kg). As early as 1980, he won the bronze medal in the junior division at the European Championships in this age group.

In 1981 he won bronze at the President's Cup in Jakarta and in 1985 reached 5th place at the European Championships in Budapest . After beating Biko Botowamungu , he lost to Janusz Zarenkiewicz . His greatest success came in 1986 at the World Championships in Reno , USA , when he lost to Alex Garcia in the semifinals and was eliminated with a bronze medal in the super heavyweight division. In 1987 another bronze medal in the super heavyweight division followed at the European Championships in Turin . He fought his way to the semi-finals against Aziz Salihu , where he lost to Ulli Kaden .

In 1989 he became a professional boxer and fought in Italy, France, England and the USA. He was Italian heavyweight champion in 1991 and boxed on December 1, 1993 for the European Championship ( EBU ), but lost to Henry Akinwande . He ended his professional career in 1995 with 14 wins, three losses and one draw.
