Yep Peter Hansen
Jap Peter Hansen (* 1767 in Westerland on Sylt ; † 1855 ) was a seaman and author from the island of Sylt.
Life
Jap Peter Hansen was born on Sylt as the second son of the sexton Peter Hansen. After many years as a seaman, he succeeded his father in Westerland (Sylt) in 1800 and also took over the work of his uncle Carsten Hansen as a navigation teacher. In 1820 Hansen was transferred to Keitum . He wrote arithmetic books and while still a seaman - probably in the period between 1788 and 1792 - he wrote the Frisian-language play Di Gidtshalts, of di Söl'ring Pid'ersdei ("The Miser, or the Sylter Petritag"; title of the 2nd edition), which was printed in 1809 under the German title Der Geitzhals on the island of Silt . He is credited with having established modern North Frisian literature and orthography with this work . In 1833, Hansen's story Di lekkelk Stjüürman ("The happy helmsman") was published as a sequel to the Sylter Petritag .
The chronicler of the island of Sylt, Christian Peter Hansen , is his son. He has reported that his father made and sold over 4000 trigonometric scales from boxwood . The Museum Altfriesisches Haus in Keitum on Sylt reports on the life of Jap Peter Hansen and his son.
