JTI - Japan Tobacco International is an international tobacco company based in Carouge in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland . It forms the international tobacco business of the Japanese Japan Tobacco Group.

JTI employs around 26,000 people worldwide and has offices at 90 locations as well as 35 production plants and research and development centers . In 2014, JT International generated sales of $ 10.9 billion with an EBITDA of $ 4.253 billion.

In Germany, the group is represented by JT International Germany GmbH with locations in Trier (production for Europe) and Cologne (administration for Germany).

history

JTI was founded in 1999 following the takeover of the Geneva- based international tobacco activities of RJ Reynolds by Japan Tobacco. The takeover of the British Gallaher Group by Japan Tobacco in April 2007 , which is considered to be the largest international takeover by a Japanese group to date, gave JTI a boost in growth with sales more than doubling compared to 2006.

Brands

JTI mainly produces and sells cigarettes of the three brands Winston , Mild Seven and Camel as well as the brands Benson & Hedges, Silk Cut, Glamor, Sobranie of London, Club and LD for the international market .

In addition, the company sells snus , cigars and cigarillos, rolling tobacco and smoke-free tobacco products under the brands Hamlet, Old Holborn, American Spirit and Amber Leaf as well as Gustavus .
