Jaroslav Mareš

Jaroslav Mareš (born December 28, 1937 in Brno ) is a Czech writer and traveler.

He studied foreign trade at the business school in Prague and after his doctorate he joined the state-owned Czechoslovak airline. For many years he worked as director of the branch in Iran and later in Canada .

Mareš visited a total of 92 countries. His love for nature led him to distant regions. In northern Botswana he discovered the world's largest predatory beetle , the Manticora imperator , which he described in 1976. He specialized in researching this beetle species and later described three other subspecies.

He visited famous dinosaur sites including Nemegt in Mongolia , Tendaguru in Tanzania , Red Deer in Alberta , localities in Utah , Colorado , Montana, and Patagonia, and has continued contacts with paleontologists around the world. In 1978 he organized a trip to the border area between Brazil and Venezuela in the region of the Curupira tribes.
